LETTER TO UNIVERSITY PUPILS

LETTER TO UNIVERSITY PUPILS

DOWNLOAD LETTER TO UNIVERSITY PUPILS: http://bit.ly/11lwZMq

Today 6th April 2013, I am qualified to write this. It has being on my mind to give a pieces of advice to higher institution students, but before now am not qualified because am still in the system.

I am Prince Adekunle Oloyede, some years back I have the opportunity to gain admission in to the University of my Choice and even to study the discipline of my choice. Although I was innocently wrong choosing the course, it was too late for me to realize that. Can’t go back considering the numbers of years I have spent at home, hustling on the street of the ancient city of Ibadan.

I won’t say I study political science by default; it has always being on my mind to study the course because of my political ambition. I don’t want people to cheat my on the field of politics, because of this political science turn to be my childhood aspiration. The experience course choosing I why I advice youth grow to maturity of whom they are and their purpose before coming into the higher institution of learning.

Happiness and joy overwhelms my heart that day I was confirm 200 level student of Olabisi Onabanjo University. It was indeed my watershed, that day I believe my dream is becoming a reality. I wish that was the same way all other youth also feels when admitted. Just to tell you the truth; it saddles my heart how unfriendly the university environment can be. Not because of the educational decadence we have in my fatherland, but because of the pupils that were admitted in to the supposed mature institution. My journey in university was what made it done on me that there is no any excuse for failure, and also we caused anything whatsoever happen to us in life, in education, business, family etc.

I understand what I mean by saying that there are pupils in the university system. It is true that the early years of Adulthood are relatively unorganized. The early adult years are a time of extraordinarily heavy demand upon the individual’s power to learn, to grow, and to adjust. If all youth will be motivated to learn and to learn quickly, it is at times such as these. The early year of most youth always fall between the times they are admitted into high institutions, therefore they have heavy demand on them. But to tell you the truth, this is the time adult receives less educative support from the society than any other period excepting old age. Really this should be, since these periods poses so many significant problems and demands, so many decision that will determine the course of the individual during the rest of his/her life on earth.

But some of us are luck to see people to redirect us and thank God we us to take to the direction. What are most significant to our early adult life are things that we do not know, tell or easily be learnt from the society.

Coming  into the university I was so luck because a friend whom something ago has been faced with the challenges of adulthood told me ways by wish he went wrong and them came back to correct his wrongs. I must tell you it was not easy for him to do that. Friend, it was not easy at all. From him I understand mistake of four weeks may take you four years to correct… imagine mistakes of four years…

The first thing that got me curious about the pupils in the university is there attitude. It took me four good years to study their attitude that is why I did not write this before I became a graduate. This piece of letter it a combination of investigation of four years on the campus of Olabisi Onanbajo University (Ogun State University) Before today, had always ask graduating students series of questions, what I got is mostly complains. They complains about Lecturers, environment not conducive for learning, time of lecture, and some other things, which to they mostly don’t complain of  before.

Am not saying that all these were not there and that they where not factors that may contribute to failure, but they are not the major problem. I love to understand the foundation of a problem before I say anything about it. Take it or leave it the major fault is with the pupils who called themselves students.

Take for instance if the problems lies with the all those factors and other ones expect for the pupils called students, no body in the system to should account for any success. But by the virtual of most effectiveness and sincerity, some students are good products of the same system, therefore there no any excuse for other ones.

It is not about the age, that just a number. I called the pupils because they are yet to grow into maturity, maturity of their purpose in life, their purpose for life, with life, also because they are yet to grow to the maturity of the Ws (Whom they are, Where, Why, What they are here in university for). There is only one thing that differentiate child from men, even though they may both be human, or male… it is the ability to hold gratification. This why I call them pupils in the university, by the virtual of normality, the university or any higher institutional system and management believes that all the students are mature and they should know when to do things, when to go to class, when to stop eating, when to stop cracking jokes, when to speak, when to meet friend, when to sleeping, when to stop partying, when to stop spending your school fees, when to save money for school fees spent. Learning when to stop all these enjoyments and many more is what I called holding gratification. Most do not know when to do and stop doing things, not even to talk of how and where to do or not to do them.

Let me make you understanding some facts that you may not have notice about the higher institution pupils. Do you know that 50% of students in the university/higher institutions of learning complain in there graduating year, 30% percent accept their fate and never bothered themselves, why other 20% percent are always happy that they are graduating. I also discover from the survey I carried out among the admitted students of Olabisi Onabanjo University between 2009-2013 admission years, I discovered that 53% of the students admitted are happy about their admission because they think they are now independent, 29% because they think they are now independent and because they also feel challenged, while other 24% think they are not independent, but feel fully challenged.

One thing that surprised me on the 25th of March 2013, my fourth year of checking the CGPA of graduating students of five departments of three different faculties in Olabisi Onabanjo University, I discovered that the results are always in the same categories. I observed that around to 20.2% are always between First Class and Second Class Lower, 31.8% are always between the grades of Third Class and Pass, about 40.5% may likely spill over to other year, and about 7.5% may not be graduated with Hons.(meaning that have the tendency of spilling for 5 times)

This means that student’ intention and orientation when coming to the university system mostly affect them to their last stage on campus. No wonder they say where purpose is unknown abuse is inevitable. But today i put it to you that, where purpose is misplaced priority can never be in order, where priority is not in order, abuse is also in evitable.

I think it is high time Pupils in the university must now understand my theory of the higher institution, which I called the Fence Theory. Pupils in the university should be made realized that even though the university may look like a fenced compound where you feel secured, independent and saved. You feel secured in school because, you think you can spend your school fee and get it back by defrauding your parent, some feel secured in school because of the extra cash they get from relatives, due to the love and care everybody shows them from home, all in the name of being in an unknown land studying. Some feel secured and independent, because they are now the alpha and omega of their decisions, because of friends and company they keep, some because they can decide when to sleep, where to sleep and who to even sleep with. While others because they do not have the idea of how things work outside school.

But in the real sense of it, the university/higher institutions does make secured, you as unsaved as anything, first because those things that seems to be like security are just temporal. Second there is no one to correct or chastised you, because you may not know when you are going astray until when you eventually derail.

Pupils in the university need to understand that the fence in higher institution is just a cover from the real fact of why they are in the system. All students are in school in order to be able to meet up with a certain standard in the society either you made the decision to come or it ways made for you. You are in the system to be able to meet up with certain standard in the society, either to secure good job, to be socially accepted, or for your right not to be trample upon. Any reason whatsoever yours may be, it is just to meet with up certain societal standard.

The little I know about social standard I understand that it changes over time and change is very fast. If a certain youth aim to work in the banking industries, and of course there is certain banking standard and you came in to the system to study in order to meet up. It is still very important you update yourself on how the standard changes so as to update your knowledge to still meet up. Four, five or six years as the case is a long way for things to change in the society. Therefore, students and pupils in the university and other higher institutions of learning needs to check themselves time to time. Stay focus so has not waste the whole fours of even seven as the case may be.

My main aim of this letter is to bring pupils in the university system to maturity; it high time they need to grow to maturity and understands that pupils are for the elementary schools and not for the university. Maturity that I mean is the ability to hold gratification. To console some people, it not even about your CGPA that matter, it about how many of what you learn that you can apply, since education can not be completely defined without the application of knowledge. But also remember that you cannot apply what you do not know.

I known am graduating with this …, although I cannot explain how it becomes this … but no problem. I can’t blame anyone, not level advice, department, school system, parent, not even friends. It I in two ways, first, I only aim at something… And a saying that I believed so well says “aim beyond the sky so that you can fail on it, even if worst happen. Second, my daddy had always told me this idiom that “ibi ti eniyan ba tain ara ge de lo ma ba ara re” let me believe that the level wey I deceived myself reach na there is see myself. I know in some ways I deceived myself. Thank God I never went astray and I stood on the rail to the end.

All the same thank God, and more thanks also goes to my friend like elder brother who challenged me and open my eye to maturity, (Oluwaseun Adeyombo) Those of us who had the opportunity to complete BSC programme let just thank God. Appreciation also goes to Elder Jibola Olaore, Pastor and Evangelist Tewogbade, Sister Success, Pastor Dare Oke, Olubode Victor, Mr. Tonade, Samuel (yellow in BFN), Muoma Ema, all member of CIA, where I was made and to my co-executives of 2011/2012 who tested and made me have proven of my managerial and leadership ability. Gratitude also goes my parent Mr. and Mrs. Oloyede Eleranegbe. Great thanks also goes to my Step-mother Mary Oloyede, your prayer got me this far.

I won’t forget to reply some Integrationist, everyone knows I don’t reply to any boast or pride posts on social networks. This is the first and probably the last, if this annoyed anyone I don’t care, anyone whosoever known how to boast let him/her. I know we measure worth in the university by whatever is being pasted on the board. But everyone deep inside us we know people who we are up to, those whom we are more than, and even our equals. Outside there results and how much we can apply will judge. Even before we leave everyone knows his/her standard in result, application of knowledge and even how versatile we are. Remember university is being universal.

Let me close with this for the pupils in the university/higher institutions. To help those who are yet to grow to maturity (pupils in the higher institutions), mindset is as a result of orientation and information they had. I will advise higher institutions, faculties of learning, departments of study, Student Union Government of institution, Associations; Religious gatherings most especially Olubi shodipe counseling unit in OOU e.t.c. to do serious time to time orientation and reorientation for students of higher institutions. So as for them to have the right mind set and fighting spirit.

Finally, for those who are still in the system, either by default, or by cause, even if its by accident and for those who are just coming or yet to come, even generally about life. I want you to know that “the result life, school, business, education offers you is as a result of your approach to it”. It is not destiny that offers you what you got, not God, either good or bad even if it is the ugly, you caused it, because my own bible made me understand in the book of Ecclesiastes 9:2 that

ALL THINGS COME ALIKE (Same) TO ALL…” another translation says “WE ALL SHARE COMMON DESTINY…”

On this note I will close, till another time you will be opportune to read my post am Oloyede Adekunle Prince, AM PROUD I WAS HERE in Olabisi Onabanjo University. Going by the BSC in Political Science, the score line was equal, no loose no win. But going by other games such as Business Administration, HR, Project Management, and Joint Venture Brokerage, making myself better developer, it obvious I won. Thank God I came I saw and I conquer.

It is my wish for students and young adults in general to grow into maturity, so that they can see the challenges ahead of them.

Wish to see you become matured… am also expecting you at the top…
